Treasurer-Tax Collector Bodley Retiring, Endorses Shauneen Gracey

Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley announced on February 10, 2026, that she will not seek election in 2026, concluding a 23-year career in county financial service.

Bodley, who was appointed Treasurer-Tax Collector in 2023, formally endorsed Shauneen Gracey, the county's Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector, as the most qualified candidate to succeed her.

"Serving the residents of Nevada County has been the greatest honor of my professional life," Bodley said. "Every decision I have made has been guided by the principles of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and strict adherence to the law."

Bodley holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and began her county career in the Auditor-Controller's Office. During her tenure as Treasurer-Tax Collector, the office achieved several milestones, according to her announcement:

• More than $28 million generated in interest earnings for schools, special districts, and county programs
• A sustained 98% secured property tax collection rate
• Record Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) collections
• Leadership in implementing a new countywide financial system

In endorsing Gracey, Bodley cited her 13 years of experience in the office. "Shauneen Gracey brings more than thirteen years of experience within this office and a deep command of the complex legal framework governing public finance," Bodley said. "She leads with professionalism, integrity, and impartiality."

Bodley described Gracey as a lifelong Nevada County resident. The Treasurer-Tax Collector position will be on the 2026 ballot. It remains to be seen whether other candidates will enter the race.
