Nevada County supervisors received a comprehensive update this week from Pacific Gas & Electric officials on the utility's ongoing emergency preparedness projects and power safety initiatives in the region.

Brandon Sanders, PG&E's Sierra Division Government Affairs representative, briefed the Nevada County Board of Supervisors on the company's work to improve reliability and public safety in the area.

The presentation focused on several key initiatives that PG&E has been implementing since the board last heard from the utility representatives a year ago:

Infrastructure Projects:

  • Undergrounding power lines to reduce wildfire risk
  • Strengthening the public electrical grid
  • Enhancing power line safety measures
  • Reducing the frequency and duration of public safety power shutoff (PSPS) events
  • Installing microgrids to improve system resilience

The Board's review of these initiatives reflects ongoing concern about reliability and public safety in Nevada County, particularly given the region's vulnerability to wildfire-related power disruptions. PG&E's investment in grid modernization and safety improvements addresses critical infrastructure challenges facing the region.

The regular updates from utilities to the Board of Supervisors provide an opportunity for local government to monitor progress on regional infrastructure priorities and discuss concerns with utility management.

PG&E serves residents and businesses throughout Nevada County and plays a critical role in maintaining reliable electrical service to the region's communities.
