Free Tax Preparation Available Through Nevada County VITA Program

The Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is operating a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site offering free tax preparation assistance and filing of simple returns. If you earned less than $69,000 in 2025, you may qualify for assistance. VITA services, including drop-off and limited in-person appointments, are available until April 13. The program helps residents access the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a fully refundable credit based on earned income. Tax credits help working families and their communities thrive, yet many taxpayers leave credits unclaimed each year. Drop-off service is available at the Social Services Office at the Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue in Nevada City, or by emailing EITC@nevadacountyca.gov. A small number of in-person appointments are also available through April 13 by calling 530-265-1727.
