Coldest Storm of Winter Heading to Nevada County

Nevada County residents are being urged to be ready for a sudden shift to winter weather. Office of Emergency Services Program Manager Paul Cummings says the system is considered the coldest of the season, with snow levels expected to drop significantly. The National Weather Service forecasts rain beginning Sunday, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms continuing through Tuesday. Temperatures will drop from 60F today to highs in the mid-40s by Tuesday, with overnight lows near freezing. Cummings recommends residents prepare emergency supplies, check heating systems, and be ready for potential power outages. Mountain communities above 3,000 feet should prepare for snow accumulation. The storm system is expected to bring 1-2 inches of rain to the lower foothills and several inches of snow above 4,000 feet by midweek.
